June Monthly Meeting – June 20, 2018

DWC June Meeting

The last meeting before the summer break reviewed the DWC activities in the past year 2017 – 2018.

Past Events:

The American Girl Tea event was a huge success. Mary Ellen Murphy provided an update on the success and opportunities for improvement of the event. Marguerite Madigan stated that the preliminary amount earned was in excess of $5000. The committee will meet over the summer. The board will email all members for input on which events to hold 2018-2019.

Freedom Flag Golf Tournament: Celeste Corrigan provided an update on the success and opportunities for improvement of the event. MOAA has been asked to repeat the tournament with DWC at Evergreen Country Club in 2019. The involvement of DWC with the golf tournament supporting SOWW would gain us a reduced room charge for our Bunco venue.

Juniorettes: Connie Loggans held the first meeting on 6/18/2018 and seven members attended. They plan to reach out to more girls who are 8th grade and above to join as ten members are required. Information on GFWC was provided and fundraising ideas were discussed.

Future Events:

Haymarket Days: Celeste Corrigan read an email from the Haymarket town clerk, Shelley Koslowski, requesting that DWC manage a wine garden during Haymarket Days on 9/15/2018. The museum is being rebranded as a showcase for artists. Haymarket will cover the cost of insurance. The winery will have the ABC license. There will be food vendors and an entertainment stage. No vendors will be set up in front of the museum or in the street. Deb Jewell stated that we could put our pamphlets in the HGBA bags as free advertising for the club.

Summer collections: Martha Feeney presented the list of donations for the Education Committee, Carried to Full Term, and the Haymarket Food Pantry. Kathy Suggitt asked that members see the list of donation requests in the June News and Notes for Gainesville Health and Rehab’s Bunco. Members were reminded to track their in-kind donations.

Home Life Committee: Mary Ellen Murphy has agreed to co-chair with Shelley Koslowski. Meetings will be held the fourth Thursday of the month at Wegmans. The projects are Carried to Full Term ‘You’ basket, Haymarket Food Pantry water bottle collection, Pinwheels, Purple Posie Project, CASA Ladies Night out with Santa, Robyn Rothman Swing for Life golf tournament, and the Haymarket flower garden.

State Conference GFWC August 17-19: Checks are due to DWC by July 20th and all members are encouraged to attend.
