American Girl Mother-Daughter Tea – June 2018

American Girl Mother-Daughter Tea

Dominion Woman’s Club Mother-Daughter Tea featuring American author Valerie Tripp

It was a gray and gloomy day outside, but inside the McLean Hilton Tyson’s Corner the smiles were plentiful and the enthusiasm was evident! The Mother-Daughter Tea (including many grandmas and aunts!) was a great success…in no small part due to the delightful Valerie Tripp, who greeted each girl as she arrived and also most of the adults! Ms. Tripp shared her insights about writing the American Girl books as well as engaging the young girls in interactive experiences that highlighted what it must have been like to live in the time of the various American Girl heroines. While enjoying lemonade and tea along with tea sandwiches, petit fours, macrons and chocolate covered strawberries, the young girls in the audience were encouraged to pursue their dreams, overcome obstacles and to write about their experiences. The girls were thrilled to win the American Girl themed raffle prizes: dolls, books and doll accessories were donated by Valerie Tripp, Mosquito Joe and the American Girl corporate office as prizes. The tables were graced by the lovely flower arrangements from Flower Gallery of Manassas and decorated with pink ribbon-tied napkins, each containing an American Girl bookmark. Jilane Burnett from “Second Chapter Books” from Middleburg once again acted as our bookseller; Ms.Tripp signed each girl’s books and commented on their choices. The American Girl store in Tyson’s Corner came with crafts to do with the girls, but we were so busy…they had to be a “take home” project!

Thank you to everyone who helped to make this such a lovely afternoon event for DWC and friends.
